CAN'T CONCENTRATE?
Attention deficit can occur in both children and adults. In children, symptoms often manifest before age seven. Attention problems can have many causes. If you have noticed the following symptoms over a period of six months or more, and these are causing problems for you at work or at home, you should consider seeking help:
- Trouble paying close attention to details or making careless mistakes at
work or other activities
- Difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or leisure activities
- Difficulty listening to others
- Difficulty following through on instructions and often failing to finish tasks
- Difficulty organizing tasks or activities
- Avoiding or disliking tasks that require sustained mental effort
- Frequently losing things that are necessary to complete tasks, i.e. papers,
tools, etc.
- Easily distracted by noises, other people’s activities, and other diversions
- Frequently forgetful in daily activities
If you notice the preceding symptoms in yourself or in a loved one, call your Employee Assistance Program to speak with a professional counselor.
