IS MY GAMBLING OUT OF CONTROL?
If you are gambling persistently and have five or more of the following symptoms, it
is time to seek help:
- Being preoccupied with gambling (e.g. reliving past experiences, planning
next venture or thing of ways to get money for gambling)
- Needing to gamble with larger and larger amounts of money to achieve the
same excitement
- Repeated efforts to control, cut back or stop gambling have failed
- Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut down or stop gambling
- Gambling to escape from problems or relieve feelings of helplessness, guilt,
anxiety or depression
- Returning to “get even” after losing money gambling (Chasing Losses)
- Lying to family members or others to hide the extent of your involvement
in gambling
- Committing illegal acts such as forgery, fraud, theft, or embezzlement to
finance gambling
- Jeopardizing or losing an important relationship, job, or educational
opportunity because of gambling
- Relying on others to provide money to relieve a desperate financial
situation caused by gambling
